Stuff My Dad Taught Me

“My Father taught me to work, he did not teach me to love it.”
~Abraham Lincoln
It’s that time of the year again. We honor those men in our lives that give so selfishly and silently. So Happy Father’s Day to all of our Dads! May you get a day of rest and relaxation and be blessed with your family around the picnic table.
I would like to honor my own Dad, Buddy Miller, with a fun list of things that he taught me along the road of life. Dad was practical, hard-working and resourceful and he provided for his family in the good times and the bad. Thanks Dad!

Don’t leave the water running.

Appreciate good music.

Learn how to change a flat tire and change your own oil.

(Okay, he tried to teach me those two but gave up and told me to marry somebody who would do it for me.)

Do things the right way the first time and you won’t have to do them over again.

Polish your shoes.

Learn to fix things on your own.

Turn off the lights if you’re not in the room.

Money doesn’t grow on trees.  Seriously, it doesn’t.

You appreciate things more when you work for them yourself.

And don’t even think of touching the thermostat…

I am sure they would! I regret to say I did not learn to change the flat 🙁 ha. Hubby says he should have made me learn all of those things but I guess I am needy! Thanks for stopping by!!

I think our Dad’s would be great friends! I grew up hearing all those things…and yes, even learned to change a flat (which came in handy one day in college!). Love this list 🙂

Yes we cannot leave out the good food!! I hope you have had a good day Ellen with your family. Doogalas celebrated with his boys yesterday with a round of golf and dinner and capped it off with black raspberry pie, just what we needed 🙂 Blessings to you friend! ♥

    Oh Candacejo!
Sounds like your father and mine had a lot of the same values and ideas: don’t leave the water on, Do it right the FIRST time!! And just about all the others you have listed! The only difference would be appreciate GOOD FOOD- lol… I do miss him, I certainly do. I lost him back when I was 16, so long ago now. But I can’t and won’t ever forget the dignity, values and respect that was my Dad.
Someday we’ll be reunited though and what a day that will be!!
    Happy Father’s Day!
Hope you have a wonderful, RELAXING day with the Sweetheart! 🙂
