It’s #FiveMinuteFriday! It’s been too long since I have written on a word prompt and today’s jumped out at me while reading my morning devotion. The word is “World”. Be blessed and visit some of the other takes on this word at Kate’s place!
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV.
Not as the world gives…
This peace that Jesus promised the disciples He would leave with them was nothing like what the world had to offer. He says in the verse previous, “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
That’s the difference. The Holy Spirit difference. Nothing this world has to offer can compare with The Comforter, the Holy Ghost!
The Holy Ghost gives us Power: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses…” Acts 1:8.
The Holy Spirit (one and the same) assists us in prayer and intercedes: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26 ESV.
“It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict, God’s job to judge and my job to love.” ~ Billy Graham
He is our Teacher: “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 NIV.
He gives us encouragement: “Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.” Acts 9:31 NIV.
He will reveal Truth for He IS Truth: “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13 NIV.
He is our Guide: “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Romans 8:14 ESV.
He gives gifts: “For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are EMPOWERED by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” 1 Corinthians 12: 8-11 ESV.
So for those times that you think you must survive on your own…remember this list and add to it; it is infinite! This is only #FiveMinuteFriday, even if it were #FiveHourFriday we could not begin to list all the attributes of the Holy Spirit, our Great Comforter. Remind yourself, daily, that He is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent. He never changes and He never leaves nor forsakes us. He has left His Word as our guide and perfect strength if we will let it into our lives.
This peace is not as the world gives, when we start looking in the world for these attributes we will find they are not eternal and they are not consistent. Only Jesus can satisfy and give us what we need for each new day. Constant relationship and communication with the Holy Spirit…you can’t get that in the world.

Thank you for sharing, and for linking up with Grace & Truth this week.
Mrs. ReneD, so glad you stopped by! I have tried and tried to get on to your blog with no success. I even googled it but every link is broken. ? I would love to read your post if you want to send it to me ynannette@gmail.com 🙂 Thank you so much!
I am a KJV girl too but if it doesn’t take something away but just puts it in today’s words I will use it. “Too deep for words” did it for me too ♥ Blessings to you dear friend.
I am trying to catch up on blog posts reading tonight, and now I know why God postponed my reading of this. It brought me to tears. I have never read the ESV version of Romans 8:26…I have only read the KJV of that verse. “Groanings too deep for words”, oh, that blessed me! To know that God cares THAT deeply about us and our needs. To know that the precious Holy Spirit intercedes with such a depth of compassion and love and intensity. I just needed this SO much right now. Thank you so much for sharing what God placed upon your heart.
I am your neighbor at Busy Being Blessed Link-up ……… Thank you for such a lovely post and reminder that our God is the one that gives.. When we feel alone, scared, like nothing is going our way ……. we can go to Him to get the things that even the world (and all it has to offer) cannot give… I just wrote a post about how event the struggles as a child – God had me JUST where He wanted me. So even in the midst of trouble God is working ey? 🙂
Amen! We are who we are as children of God because He has also given us the Spirit. I love the list you started and how we become who we are all because of the gifts of the spirit and how we use them. Blessed you shared this at The Weekend Brew.
Thank you so much for visiting! He is our source for everything! Blessings.

Great post! Why is it so hard to learn and remember that the world can’t provide what we need? The Holy Spirit is the source of our everything. This line packs the punch: “Only Jesus can satisfy and give us what we need for each new day.” Amen!
Blessing to you Ifeoma! The Difference Maker…love it ♥
I am glad the Lord blesses us with His peace not as the world gives. Thank God for the presence of the “The Difference Maker” The Holy Spirit.
You outlined all the benenfits and I appreciate the scriptures too.
